What is That Star Cluster?

The star cluster is the Pleiades, located in the northern constellation Taurus. If you
find the red star Aldebaran in Taurus, the Pleiades are above it and towards the
east. In mythology, the sisters that form the Pleiades were put there to keep Orion’s
hands off them. Eternally pursued by Orion, the seven sisters of the Pleiades elude
the hunter across the heavens. The stars are named after the sisters Maia, Electra,
Merope, Alcyone, Taygete, Celeano and Asterope. If it’s a clear night and your vision
is keen, you might be able to make out the cluster.

The Pleiades were Nymphs, strong symbols of beauty in mythology.
