Derecktor Shipyards
Derecktor Shipyards maintains operations in Mamaroneck, New York, Bridgport
Connecticut and near the Dania Cutoff Canal, less than a mile from the entrance to
Port Everglades, Florida. Derecktor is recognized in the shipbuilding industry for
work with water taxis, patrol boats, ferries, pilot boats and other commercial vessels.
Their website proudly points out over 50 years experience in the field with abilities to
handle engineering, propulsion, electrical, electronics, rigging and other types of
marine projects.
In July of 2006, Derecktor announced the signing of a contract for a 280 foot motor
yacht, which it said was to be the largest yacht built in the United States in over 75
years. In the news release, Derecktor mentions the talent going into the project,
including naval architecture by Azure Naval Artchitects of Holland, exterior design by
Tim Heywood and interior design by Liz Dalton of Dalton Designs.
The company is proud of its history, dating to 1947, with Robert Derecktor starting in
a small waterfront shop in Mamaroneck. With the torch passed to Bob’s son Paul,
Derecktor has evolved into a shipbuilding operation that works n steel, aluminum,
fiberglass, titanium and high tech composites.
